I have more than 20 years in the nonprofit sector managing programs and raising funds for arts, environmental, and human services organizations in Washington state and beyond. I love helping organizations make the strongest possible case for funding, distilling their unique stories, vision, and impact so that they can fuel and grow their important work.
I have significant operations and leadership experience as former manager of three busy family support centers in Snohomish County and the Pike Market Food Bank in downtown Seattle. I have written grants extensively for foster-adoption and family service programs at Lutheran Community Services Northwest and have led a five-person development team as Conservation Northwest’s Development Director. Now as a freelance grant writer, I have written grants for dozens of nonprofit organizations spanning a range of causes, helping them to win millions of dollars in grant funding. This wide background makes me versatile as a grant writer and able to write persuasively on a broad array of topics.
On the creative end of the spectrum, I moonlight as a poet and performance artist, performing throughout the Northwest, and leading creative writing workshops for teens and adults. For more on my creative work and consulting visit www.matthewbrouwerpoet.com.
Every strong team needs a good leader, and you led this team brilliantly. My sense is that people felt heard and that their input was valued. You set the course and provided the leadership, almost as if you built a scaffold that people could then hang their work on. There aren’t many leaders who can balance both halves of the equation and you did so capably and gracefully.
